Vimeo | Videos sharing for you

If you are a fan of YouTube, you will definitely enjoy Vimeo. But what is Vimeo? It may not be a household name now, unlike YouTube, MySpace, Multiply or other famous online communities, but Vimeo is very similar to these three online communities wherein you are able to share multimedia files to people around the world who have respectable internet speed connection and a running computer. With the growing need for people to connect through various multimedia forms, this online community arose.

What makes Vimeo different is the fact that it caters to all multimedia files but most especially to video files. Unlike YouTube, wherein if you upload a video it will automatically convert to a low-res flash movie, Vimeo proudly boasts that their community supports high-def videos. Perfect for up and coming documentary makers and film makers in their infancy stage in their craft!

IMHO, I love the fact that I can finally watch home made movies of people made from all over the world without missing a single frame! None of that pixilated madness that I encounter in YouTube, Vimeo makes sure that if the video is shot in close range, I get to see even the pores of the people featured!

If you check out the site, there is an Explore tab that you can check out that will give you an overview of what this online community offers. Even this section of the site is very fun to look at with its colorful tabs and interactive links. Here is a break down of each link seen on the explore page.

1. Groups
Like Livejournal’s Groups, Vimeo also has its groups wherein one member can create small communities inside the Vimeo community, sort of like creating clubs in school. What is fantastic about the groups seen in Vimeo is that since the site has good video streaming, most people that log on are video enthusiasts and most groups in turn also cater to video fanatics.

2. High Definition Videos
As mentioned above, this online community supports high definition movies! So load up your college documentary and let others watch it for free in all its 1280×720 glory!

3. Projects
Aside from the Groups, another way to interact with people who share the same passion as you do is to participate in projects that registered users open up. There are currently a huge number of very interesting projects that any video fan will enjoy.

4. Facebook
Anyone who is into online communities know what Facebook is. Now, if you register to Vimeo and you have a Facebook, you can now download a Facebook application from Vimeo so your Facebook friends can view your high-def videos.

All in all, Vimeo is a great online community for video fans. It may require a fast internet connection and a high performing processor for the platform to perform optimally, but it does not fail the expectations of film buffs out there. So if you are looking for an online community that delivers in terms of the quality of video uploads, then visit the site or sign up.
