Hulu | Watch TV Series
I always am a sucker for good graphics, Flash, and Java-filled websites. Hulu for instance really got me wondering just what nice features and online videos it has to offer because of how technically advanced the homepage looked already. While clicking on the arrows to browse through the previews, I then realized that Hulu.com was not only an online video website but an online television itself. It has channels of different TV series that people from all over the country can tune in to watch the latest series being aired on mainstream television. It also hosts Hollywood movies and documentaries for those who prefer long features to channels of short TV series. Though the website is progressing really well, it is currently trying to open their streaming capacity to viewers outside of the United States with video streaming limited to only Americans at the moment.
Hulu was born in 2007 with parents NBC Universal and News Corp. The website is operated independently by a management team located in Los Angeles, New York, and even in Beijing, China. It was able to maximize its resources and come up with something technologically advanced since it closed a US $100 million investment last October 2007. It aims to offer free viewing for users from all over the country of all kinds of videos, TV shows, movies, and video clips uploaded by online users as well. They have a large selection of visual media from 100 providers such as NBC Universal, MGM, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., and even FOX. This just goes to show that the website is legal and is given rights by prominent studios and companies to stream their shows to people from all over the country.
Hulu aims to give users an all-around video streaming experience both through viewing the latest TV hits and uploading their share of video clips of favorite movies, TV shows, etc. It focuses on quality over quantity, giving users the ability to watch their shows comfortably anywhere and everywhere they go. I browsed through some of the videos and was by far amazed that some of my favorite shows are being streamed in Hulu database as well. The videos are so convenient in a way that it doesn’t take too much time for the video to buffer and play, which is a big plus on their part. What’s more, people can watch as many videos and TV shows as they want for free without having to deal with too many advertisements.
YouTube and other online video websites also have similar features such as channels and online video viewing, but it has yet to improve their features to make them similar to real life television sets where people can switch channels and watch movies and TV shows as long as they want. Hopefully in the future, TV shows, movie clips, and other recent visual content will be allowed by their respective studios to be streamed for everyone’s personal viewing, bringing online entertainment a level higher than it ever was before.
